Overview
Members of the public, and regular Fab Lab members, can view all public pages on this wiki with no login required.
This article concerns adding new registered users who can log in to the wiki, and have permissions to:
- View their Action Group's private workspace(s)
- Edit their Action Group's private and public workspace(s)
The following instructions describe the few steps required to invite a user to the Zoho Group that has permissions for a particular Action Group's workspaces.
(It is also possible for Admins (but not Group moderators) to invite a user as a side effect of granting that user permissions directly on a particular page or workspace. We generally will not use this method, and it is not discussed further here.)
The invited user will receive an email from Zoho, including a link to use to respond to Zoho. At that link, Zoho will ask the user to create a Zoho account if they don't have one (no cost to the user).
Steps for adding users
We have configured Zoho User Groups corresponding to each Fab Lab SD Action Group. Each Zoho User Group already has permissions to view and edit the Action Group's workspaces.
To add a user to a Zoho User Group, while logged in to Zoho as a user who has moderator status on the Group in question, proceed as follows:
- Hamburger Menu > My Account. Click Groups Should invoke the Zoho Accounts page, with Groups > All Groups panel selected.
- Click the group in question. Should show Groups panel for the selected group.
- Click "Invite Friends". Should reveal slots as follows
- Members Email Address: Enter (or paste) email addresses for users you wish to add.
- Please use the same email address each time a use is invited to a group. This way, the user has only one zoho account to deal with, and we aren't paying for extra users!
- Enter a short message. Optional, but I suggest something like: "Welcome to the XYZ group at fablabsd.wiki.zoho.com", because the process the user sees is a little vague about what wiki they are begin invited to.
- Hit the Invite button.
Note: Though the Zoho
Contacts feature would seem helpful here, especially the Shared Contacts
feature, it turns out it doesn't quite do what we would want. See: Groups invite feature can't see shared contact list?
Steps for removing a user
While logged in as moderator of the Group (or owner of the group, so that's user "Fab Lab SD"):
- Hamburger menu > My Account > Groups Opens Zoho Accounts page, with Groups > All Groups tab selected.
- Zoho Accounts page > Groups >All Groups > select the group in question
- Press the Members button.
- Find the user in question.
- Use the drop-down to select Delete.
